It's pretty easy. Or you could use this to say something, I don't bite unless asked to.

Sandy Denny & Thea Gilmore — Glistening Bay.

While Sandy Denny never recorded these, the words are her’s and this collaboration of ten songs is damn pretty as well as very affecting. The music written by Thea Gilmore feels true to them both. There are musical hues from both Fairport Convention and Sandy’s solo works but at the same time the melodies unmistakably are those of Thea’s. You can hear it on the guitars — sometimes more, sometimes less. But it’s there.

Perhaps posting music can be used as an example that people do learn. There’s more assumed readers now than before but earlier I could have lots of more people who listened to the music — I think some went up to a few hundred. But on the same time, it can also be used as an example that people do not learn. The last time I posted a The Gilmore song it had zero, nought, none listens and here I post another one with It All Gets Buried In the End.

My argument though is that it’s good music and some of you are just plain in the wrong. Learning the wrong behaviour is… lamentable at best and a downright shame when it means good music is ignored. Until you relearn there will be Thea songs.

In late 2010 Thea Gilmore was commissioned by Sandy [Denny]’s estate, in conjunction with Island Records, to write melodies for unfinished manuscripts, lyrics without music, and works in progress and so to finally bring some of Sandy’s last works to the world.

Thea Gilmore — It All Gets Buried In the End

Sad music, a beer (BrewDog’s Sorachi Ace), a really orange blanket (see enclosed photo), and an xbox controller. This is all I need. Fun and people are way overrated.

Thea Gilmore — The Resurrection Men

Even if it’s a part of her works that she herself has problems with — she didn’t sing in her own British dialect at this time and I do agree that she should — I think this is an excellent song. Excellent.

Thea Gilmore — I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine

I think Thea has bigger balls than most. Do a track-for-track re-recording of John Wesley Harding? Sure, why not? This song might be the oldest one since she recorded it in 2002 but damn, it is one of my favourite covers ever.

Thea Gilmore – Play Until the Bottle’s Gone.

“There’s a tune of revolution there in every single cord” is a beautiful statement and I hope it’s true. Probably not though, but still. It doesn’t have to be a big revolution, it can be a small personal one with the refusal of eating sausage or ham or just trying to live and be as happy as one can be.

I’m going to need some tea. (Actually been sort of social today. With people.)

Thea Gilmore - Teach Me To Be Bad

Last year Thea made a Christmas album filled with sarcasm and beauty. If you’re into good music as opposed to the normal shrill that gets hammered into our heads in this season. This however is from her latest normal CD.

The tempo is the same so you could make a mashup between this and the original. I don’t know why you would want to do something like that though. They’re both great in different ways. Where the Buzzcocks’ original sneer and lash out, Thea Gilmore’s Ever Fallen In Love is sad. It’s not a rhetorical question anymore, more as a conversation between close friends about heartache.

Thea Gilmore - God’s Got Nothing On You

Her Strange Communion — which does not include this song as it is from her new Murphy’s Heart — is one of the few good Christmas albums. Aimee Mann failed for Santa’s sake! That ought to tell you something about Thea. (Perhaps I’m just, you know, too much a fanboy. But I don’t think so!)

How I love Thea and her songs.

I guess I have to take responsibility for what I write in this blog, hope I don't make myself look like an ass too often.
