Contact: ninjamupp [= aim & twitter] [+ hotmail.com = msn] [+ gmail.com = mail] [+ googlewave.com = google wave]. It's pretty easy. Or you could use this to say something, I don't bite unless asked to.
I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to this but a lot would probably get close. There should probably be some sort of justification and explanation from their side on how they dare to release such a good album twenty years after the last. It’s indecent! (Please! More!)
Seriously, this is the best rain music ever. To hear the rain pour down, spatter against the window or flow in small streams desperately searching for an easy way to reach the ground.
I have the window a bit open so that I can hear it a bit better. It usually doesn’t like my window and avoids it, opening it is my way of acting like a child and beg please. I think that’s silly as that’s one of the best sounds ever devised by nature.
(But as much as I like it, I do hope there will be sun Thursday to Sunday at least — yearly camping trip in the outskirts of Stockholm!)
The best song on the new Ted Leo album! Video written and directed by Tom Scharpling! Paul F Tompkins! John Hodgman! Julie Klausner! AP Mike! DJ Terre T! My friend Christine!! That guy from Titus Andronicus! Musical theater! Hilarity! Best video of 2010!
If you are very eagle-eyed, you can spot me as well, lurking, there — no, not — yes. There. At the corner of a frame. If you are not eagle-eyed, or even if you are but in addition to being eagle-eyed you prefer to use your imagination, do as I say now. See that shot of Christine, the lady in the green Sin Eaters shirt? See that shot of acclaimed playwright Jason Grote, the gentleman in the leather jacket? Now imagine someone is sitting between them. Someone is. I shan’t tell you who. Okay, it’s me.
This was a really fun day. I applied eyeliner on the subway and lost an earring while walking to the club; it helped me get into character, as did this. On set we drank Parklifes (Parklives?) until we felt like good actors. Ted Leo played a few tunes for us in between shots. Everyone was super nice! And Christine took some behind-the-scenes photos. So basically everything about this is the best. TAKE A WHISPERING CLASS.
(I want to write something as I don’t really believe in just reblogging, but can’t think of anything more than OHHHH! TED LEO!)
We — read that as “I” — wish H.P. Lovecraft a happy 120th birthday today and we do it with this song from The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets called The Innsmouth Look.
I — spelled “we” — would have posted the song Cthulhu Fhtagn but alas, no one has recorded it.
There is a this box, a box with ten CDs, the complete Hank Williams. At least the complete studio recordings. The question many people ask themselves is of course “Do I want this?” Which is a valid question and “no” might very well be the answer.
However, it’s the wrong question. The real one is “Do I need this?” and to that there is only one answer if you truly truly love music. And that is “fuck yeah.” Music with this emotional punch is hard enough to find as it is. (It’s just like the boxes with Charles Mingus. You need them, really you do.)
Unless you’re like my brother who think good music requires growling out lyrics about fairies (the fictional kind) and a metal guitar solo each third minute. But then you’re a lost cause anyway…
Fan, fan, fan. After listening to their new album, I feel even worse for being elsewhere when they were here in the local place to play live. This music makes me warm inside. Like tea.
I got the vinyl of Versus’ On the Ones and Threes today. People who complain that there isn’t any new music that really grabs them in the heart and pulls them up into euphoria must be pretty boring. And limited in their love for music.
While I’ve had and still have favourite bands that’s been there a long time, over half my life really, there’s still new songs to fall in love with. New bands to obsess about, and new things that crushes the mind-grapes with a steady grip of awesome. Versus is not a new band for me, they’ve been gone for ten years and according to all the rules a new album shouldn’t be allowed to be this great. Because it is great and all the new songs do the mind-grape squashing. Feel it! See?
If it wasn’t for the fear of ruining the records, I’d hug the shit out of them. But no, I’ll just settle with listening over and over again.
(Song: Versus — Invincible Hero. (Song two on vinyl, song one on the cd.))
I think this is a fitting end on punk week. While Lyxén’s post-Refused bands has been all from decent to boring, David Sandström has been quite excellent across the board— so you should search and listen to his David Sandström Overdrive. He’s the weird one, the one with ideas so I guess this album in particular would have sounded very different without him.
I know! Another one beginning with that blasted C. The think is though, I needed to have it here. Mick Jones might not be the best lyricist of punk but he is a natural genius when it comes to melody. Add his curiosity and fondness for do it yourself, the duo have free for download new material and all that.
This is Maggie Vail, she played bass (among other things, she’s one of those multi instrumentalist people). That and the great music is enough for a joint SST/punk week. No, nudity is not required. Fuck that, give me sarcasm and smarts and a pounding guitar-driven bass-line and… that’s enough. Somehow. Let’s not go into that. MUSIC! LISTEN! DON’T READ MUCH INTO WHAT I WRITE! Except normally when you probably should. Today is complicated.
