There has been a restless drift inherent in most of my blogging since the beginning. (I still remember the greymatter interface fondly.) I started up Lost Pages in the summer of 2001 and shut it down around 2004 when I switched to textpattern and was far more interested in writing about comics. I cut down on the number of non-comicblogs I followed, and later, even more as I stopped writing in English all in all. When I did this, I also lost track of many other people whom I loved to read.

I have no real explanation why, I just know that it happened. I still feel a bit bad about it. I lost contact with people I liked. I still haven’t found everyone — the easiest one’s that still cling to the same domains was easy when I dug up the old link-lists. But the others? I feel as if I abandoned them. This guilt make me both try a bit too hard at interacting here I think, as well as keeping the distance. Yeah, those two shouldn’t work together at all but they do. I don’t want to miss everyone. Not again.

It’s a bit surprising that I now and then I’d stumble over a few of these wayward people here. The Internet is only as large and vast as one makes it — it can be a very small place. I like that. And even if you might not remember me, I do remember you. I hope. It would be a bit awkward otherwise, but I’m all for that as well.

A rarity indeed, but I had a nightmare last night. It’s a bit telling about my fragile eggshell mind that this is the thing that registers as a nightmare and not the blood and gore and apocalyptic duststorms that make frequent appearances otherwise.

But I dreamt that I was in an old cinema. Sort of like a amusement park too with the ticket booths and eerie smiles. Long lines and the chairs later were uncomfortable. And then there, on the stage, they projected a live show with the Joy Formidable. And they were pretty bad. The Joy Formidable! Insane, I know. They can’t be bad live. Impossible. But the fear was overwhelming I guess. In the dream I cried and got bullied by my friends who I had dragged along.

I’d take dying any day over this.

This body is broken today. Parts I didn’t know I had ache and I just want to lie down and sleep. I don’t mean the usual naps, I talk about sleep under the cover and and just buzzsaw away the day.

Also: nosebleed. Fuckin’ hell. The worst part of that is that it’s my blood. Why can’t I bleed someone else’s blood? That would have been so much better.

There were two vampire movies in 1987. One, the Lost Boys, everyone remembers and seem to like even though it is crap. It’s sort of like one of those radio plays for kids, even down to the kids save the day routine. Can you say Mary Sue horror light?

The other one though, was Kathryn Bigelow’s Near Dark. It’s everything the Lost Boys isn’t. Dark, grainy, amoral and dysfunctional. Sure, there’s the streak of redemption but that’s overshadowed by the gritty reality that people who need blood to live? They don’t follow rules. They don’t hang around in gangs in a town forever and bully the people. They move, kill, and move as the predators they are.

I’m going to rewatch the last one right now.
