• I regularly struggle to open things that are perforated or have little tabs where the tear has already been started for you. Also, even if I rip it, there’s a solid chance that I somehow did it wrong and need to use scissors anyways.

Oh yes. Or you open it in the bottom instead by accident — which of course leads to other accidents. I got tomato in my ear thanks to a perforated tear-here. (So I used my teeth, it didn’t want to open otherwise!) The worst is the things with plastic bottle caps. There’s no way of opening those without pouring stuff all over the table.
